It may be said that Australian actor John Jarratt is only good for one thing – playing a mass-murderous psychopathic killer. The actor’s debut single, ‘Killer in Me’ stands as strong testimony to the fact that Jarratt is far from being a one trick pony. The man can sing. Not only that – but he delivers a fist in the face attitude coupled with a snarling vocal that will simultaneously chill your bones and paradoxically, make you want to hum along. There’s no doubt this track is catchy.
Killer in Me marks the first single release from the monster soundtrack to Jarratt’s upcoming film and directorial debut, STALKHER. Recorded in Melbourne’s Backlot Studios and tended to by a stellar production team, Killer In Me boasts all the hallmarks of top-notch country pop/rock. The track also features Jarratt’s Stalkher co-star and three-time AFI nominee, Kaarin Fairfax on backing vocals as well as showcasing renown Australian blues musician Smokin Sam on harmonica.
Like the film, the song is dark yet playful. Jarratt brings all his menacing glory to the fore and minces it with a good dose of grit, then washes it down with a hint of irony and dash of bourbon. The track has wide appeal with a melodic and memorable chorus as well as highly charged verses. With a bit of rock, a taste of twang and a whole lot of balls, ‘Killer In Me’ is going to rip through radio waves, showcasing Jarratt in a spectacular new light. I’ll say it again… The man can sing.
Killer in Me was created and produced by Mark D’Angelo, Tony Ianiro and Craig Jansson of The Backlot Studios, Melbourne. D’Angelo and Jansson were responsible for the instrumentation and the arrangement was heavily inspired by the score and music featured in the film. John Jarratt had a hand in the evolution of the track and lends to the performance of it that special something only Jarratt can provide.
The Backlot team have a host of credits to their names with D’Angelo, who is a composer and artist in his own right, having worked with the likes of Powderfinger, The Killers and Miami Horror and having extensive and impressive professional background in both music and cinema. Meanwhile Jansson heads up The Backlot Post sound department with decades of industry experience with countless entertainment credits to his name encompassing film, radio, TV, games, advertising and documentaries.
The film clip was filmed at The Backlot Post in Melbourne and directed by John Jarratt himself. It also features some tantalising footage from the film STALKHER. Nick McLean of Motion + Light Productions put the clip together and is a partner in Jarratt’s production company OZPIX Entertainment. Highly entertaining and a little bit cheeky, the Killer in Me clip offers fans a thrilling glimpse of the film and an up-close and personal experience of Jarratt as they’ve never seen him before: Singing like a crazed rocker in a Hawaiian shirt. What’s not to love?
KILLER IN ME LYRICS
NOW THAT THE DAY IS DONE
THE SUN GOES DOWN LIKE A SMOKING GUN
GOT A SOUL WITH A HUNGER FOR ETERNITY
BUT YOU CANT STOP THE KILLER IN ME
THE DARK COLD NIGHT IS A FRIEND OF MINE
ITS MY FREEDOM TRUTH IN KIND
LIKE A RUNAWAY CHILD SET ME FREE
BUT YOU CANT STOP THE KILLER IN ME
SEE IM LIKE A SNAKE
HIDING IN THE GRASS
IM LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN
COMIN AT YOU FAST
IM A FULL SPEED MUSTANG
HOLDIN BACK THE REINS
IM A FORCE OF NATURE, IM OUTTA CONTROL THAT YOU CANT CONTAIN
IM LIKE THE DARKNESS HIDING UNDER THE BED
IM LIKE THE BLACKNESS BURIED IN YOUR HEAD
I AM THE HERO COME TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
YEAH IM THE SAVIOUR, IM HERE TO PRAISE YA WITH MY SWITCH BLADE KNIFE
GOT THE THIST OF A CAMEL FEEL A HUNDRED DEGREES
GOT ME RUN RUN RUNNING LIKE A SOCIAL DISEASE
BUT I DONT WANNA PLAY LIKE THAT NO MORE
GOT A SICKNESS A WEAKNESS, IM OUTTA CONTROL
RELEASE ME REALEASE ME FROM OUT OF THIS HOLE,
CAUSE I DONT WANNA PLAY LIKE THAT NO MORE…..
